Who we are

Hello there! I'm Diego, the one-man band behind theFIRE.site. I'm a 40-year-old mechanical engineer from Spain, currently living in Luxembourg, who's been passionate about web development since I was 17. I've had the opportunity to live and work in various European countries, which has given me different perspectives on life and finance.

For several years, I worked as a procurement engineer, which allowed me to develop a strong command of Excel. When the COVID-19 pandemic started, my interest in investments significantly increased, primarily in stocks, but also in cryptocurrencies and real estate.

My journey towards financial independence and early retirement (FIRE) began while listening to a podcast from my colleague, Jonathan, who runs a brilliant finance blog. The FIRE concept fascinated me, leading me to create Excel tools to simulate my potential path to early retirement. I soon realized these tools could be useful for others seeking financial freedom, which was how theFIRE.site was born.

I'd like to make it clear that I'm not a finance expert, but simply an individual enthusiastic about managing my savings. I created theFIRE.site to share what I've learned over the years, along with the tools I've developed for myself, in the hope they might be useful to someone else. At the same time, I'm eager to learn from the experiences and knowledge of others in the community I hope we can build.

My goal with theFIRE.site is to provide valuable resources and information for ordinary people, just like you and me. I aim to offer honest advice and practical tools, steering clear of unrealistic promises some websites make about spending every day sunbathing on the beach. Financial independence is a journey I'm still on, and I'm not only here to help you navigate it, but also to share my own experiences as I work towards early retirement.

In a few years, I plan to return to Spain and achieve my goal of retiring early there. As theFIRE.site is still quite new, my vision is to expand the range of available tools over time and create a supportive community of individuals with the same interests in financial freedom.
